Bring Good Cheer Throughout the Year with The Holiday Project in Fredericksburg

“After being hospitalized five times in two years, I understand how lonely it can be, especially around the holidays.  As a volunteer with The Holiday Project in Fredericksburg, I visited with nursing home residents during the holidays as part of a team.  It was inspiring.”

In 2012, The Holiday Project and AARP Virginia joined forces again to organize volunteer visit teams.  These teams visited selected residents in Fredericksburg area nursing homes and assisted living facilities during the holidays.  Eight visit teams with 55 volunteers visited nearly 350 facility residents in November and December!

The holiday season has passed. However, the need for volunteers continues throughout the year.  While some facility residents have family and friends close by to visit, many do not.

The Holiday Project organizes team visits on holidays throughout the year, not just in November and December!  To make this possible, all that’s needed are Team Leaders -- people who can be the liaisons between the volunteers and the individual facilities and Team Members who join visit teams.

“We know we cannot spend time with everyone,” says The Holiday Project of the National Capital Area volunteer, Sally Cooney Anderson, “but with AARP Virginia’s assistance over the past two seasons, we have been able to visit with many more people than we could in the past.”
