Pasadena, CA – AARP California is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Murray as the new State Director, effective June 23, 2025. Michael brings more than 35 years of experience in leading diverse teams within AARP at the local, state, and national levels in pursuit of the Association’s mission to enhance the quality of life for all as they age.
With 3.2 million members in California, AARP California strengthens communities and advocates for what matters most to older Californians and their families, including health security, financial stability and personal fulfillment.

AARP California is hosting in-person fraud presentations, shred events, and cybersecurity workshops across San Diego through July!
As we focus throughout the month of July on empowering those in need, we are also shining a light on volunteer opportunities right here in California.
This August, AARP will be partnering with the Pilipinx American Library (PAL) and the Asian Art Museum to celebrate and examine Filipino literature and art over a series of events. PAL is a mobile, non-circulating library that collects print histories and celebrates narratives exclusively by Filipino writers, poets, artists and scholars.
At AARP we know it takes time to build great communities, but we also believe that quick action can spark longer-term progress. The AARP Community Challenge grant provides communities across the country with the chance to fund quick action projects that can inspire change in areas such as transportation, open spaces, housing, and other innovative ideas to improve communities and make them better places to live for all ages and abilities.
The summer months are prime time for home repair scams. The general ruse involves someone coming to your door and offering to do work on your home, typically at a big discount.
“The human contribution is the essential ingredient. It is only in the giving of oneself to others that we truly live.” The quote by AARP founder Ethel Percy Andrus still rings true today and continues to shape this association dedicated to helping people age 50+ live their best lives.

Galaxy players, educate yourself about the power of protests by Chicanos in Los Angeles during the 60's seeking social justice; as well as take your little ones to enjoy an intergenerational free show. Register for each event in order to receive a surprise gift. ¡We look forward to seeing you there!

On Thursday, June 7th, 2018, Abraham Lincoln High School graduate, Gissell Jiménez, was selected as the recipient of this year’s Andrus Opportunity Award along with $5,000 to help her pay for her education. The award is named after AARP founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, who served as principal of Lincoln High from 1916 to 1944.
