AARP Eye Center
Family caregivers have taken on a huge responsibility, helping their loved ones to live in their own homes and to stay out of costly institutions. More than 1.7 million Ohioans are caring for parents, spouses, siblings and other loved ones. This loving care can be just as tough as it is rewarding.
We know that a break, a chance to connect with other caregivers who understand, can make a tremendous difference. AARP wants to encourage caregivers to take a break and enjoy a respite. Caregivers need to take time for and care of themselves, too. That’s why we’re offering three different Caregiver Hikes at Cleveland MetroParks in October.
These naturalist-lead hikes will allow caregivers to take a break and learn about the park system and its foliage and animals. Each 90-minute hike will begin at 10 a.m. at that reservation’s Nature Center, where AARP volunteers will be on hand to share information about the free caregiving tools and resources we offer at the AARP Caregiver Resource Center. Volunteers also will talk about the opportunities for caregivers to connect with each other online at iheartcaregivers. They also will have information on hand to let hikers know about other AARP events planned in the area.
Caregiver Hikes will take place from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and are free, but reservations are required as the size of each
walking group is limited. Call toll-free 1-877-926-8300 to RSVP or register online by clicking on the date for the hike you want to take.
