Seven Massachusetts projects received AARP Community Challenge grants in 2023, with a total of $77,750 awarded. The grants, part of AARP’s Livable Communities initiative, provide funding for quick-turnaround projects that seek to improve the quality of life for residents of all ages.

Winter Placemaking Projects Promote Livability for All Ages
Creating communities where people can thrive as they age is one of our top priorities. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers and a wide array of activities, we are making progress!
The conversation continues! As we prepare for a historic election year, AARP Michigan is stepping forward to host an important and much-needed two-part virtual series as part of its MI Sisters & Friends call to action to identify and elevate issues important to women.
AARP South Dakota announced that seven South Dakota organizations are the first-ever recipients of winter placemaking grants to support local efforts that activate outdoor public spaces during cold weather months using pop-up or temporary demonstrations.
This past July, AARP Nebraska announced the launch of a rare and unique Omaha architecture design competition called “An ADU for U.” An Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is a small house or apartment residing on a single-family residence’s property lot. They can be located within, attached, or detached from the primary residence.
The fourteen local advocates who completed the 2023 Vermont State Walking College, in collaboration with AARP Vermont, have announced their Walk Action Plans for their communities.
AARP Connecticut has selected nine recipients for its sixth Livable Communities Grant Program dedicated to fund quick-action projects in Connecticut communities that will help make immediate improvements or jumpstart long-term progress that will support residents. AARP Connecticut has funded 38 projects since the inception of the program in 2018.
