As part of our work in Livable Communities, AARP Delaware was the presenting Sponsor for the 2020 Designing Intersection for People in Delaware virtual conference. Organized by our community partner Bike Delaware, the conference had a diverse international panel that included issues experts and engineers from across the country and the Netherlands. It also served as platform for discussion of challenges for eight specific intersections across the State of Delaware that can be made a bit more safe for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. AARP Delaware State President George Meldrum provided welcoming remarks, expressing AARP’s support for better transportation options for Delawareans, especially those age 50+.

AARP Delaware called on Delaware’s leadership to take additional actions to save the lives of nursing home residents and staff as COVID-19 continues to attack the state’s long-term care facilities. In a letter to the Governor’s office, AARP recommended commonsense policies Delaware can implement to combat the virus in nursing homes and keep residents safe and connected:
