Food Drive Participation Brings “Gratitude and Thanksgiving”

Last week’s Harvest for the Hungry food drive saw volunteers helping to raise more than 45,000 pounds of donated, pre-filled bags of groceries in just one week. An astounding amount! Here is another story from an AARP Maryland volunteer who helped staffed her local Safeway during that time:

“I was delighted to see that about one out of every five people that I approached who entered the store was receptive to purchasing a $10 grocery bag.  One donor selected her own items and took pride in her bargain shopping.  Another gladly picked up two bags and pressed her way to the checkout to ensure they made it on the truck.

I was overwhelmed when one of the donors was a former colleague whom I had not seen for many years, and oh—what a reunion!  My overall experience was one of gratitude and thanksgiving that I was able to participate in such a rewarding event.”
