Does it sometimes seem as if your smartphone isn’t so smart? Learn how to get your mobile devices working for you at free hands-on training sessions sponsored by AARP California in April and May in the greater Los Angeles area.
Designed for those 50 and older, AARP TEK (Technology, Education and Knowledge) workshops feature plainspoken, user-friendly information on personal technology, including the use of touchscreens, applications, texting, photo sharing and more.
“We want to close the digital divide in multicultural communities and empower this audience with technology to help them connect to their families, job opportunities and health information,” said Charee Gillins, AARP California spokeswoman. “We create an environment where people can be comfortable as they learn how to get a handle on what to do with a smartphone or tablet.”
Trainers at the workshops will have smartphones and tablets to demonstrate, so participants don’t need to bring their own devices. AARP members and nonmembers are welcome.
Workshops are scheduled for April 4 and May 30 in Downey, April 10 and May 19 in East Los Angeles and April 20 and May 4 in Artesia. To register, go to aarp.cvent.com/aarptekcalifornia or call 855-380-2139 toll-free. —Laura Mecoy
