AARP is backing further calls for transparency from utility companies.

When Illinois voters go to the polls in November, they will be asked to vote on whether to pass a Constitutional amendment to allow state lawmakers to impose a graduated income tax. AARP Illinois has formed a Ballot Initiative Committee to educate the public about why a graduated income tax would be in the best interest of the state’s 1.7 million members.

AARP Illinois was the only advocacy group invited to speak at the signing of an important new law which caps the out-of-pocket cost of insulin for state residents.

Other potential 2020 legislation would require pharmaceutical companies to explain price hikes and pave the way for importing drugs from Canada and other countries.
