As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans—including many older adults—may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. This disruption affects individuals living on fixed incomes, many of whom rely on SNAP to afford groceries and maintain their health.

Crypto ATM fraud is on the rise. AARP has successfully backed new laws to protect consumers in at least 14 other states and is pushing for similar legislation in Indiana.

New AARP caregiving data released today, Caregiving in the U.S. 2025: Caring Across States, finds that 24% of adults in Indiana — approximately 1.2 million people — are family caregivers, providing largely unpaid and unsupported care to older parents, spouses, and other loved ones. Mass transit is a critical piece of the community puzzle in Indianapolis. Reliable bus service means that your friends and neighbors can get to their jobs, that your parents and grandparents can get to doctor’s appointments and the grocery store, and that members of the community can access shopping centers and businesses – all of which contributes to the economic strength of our city. AARP fully supports the Marion County Transit Plan – a plan that will provide additional funding for the expansion of mass transit in Marion County. Want to know more? Come ride the bus with AARP! This week, AARP Indiana headed to Washington, D.C. to advocate on behalf of AARP members and all older Americans on the crucial issues of Family Caregiving and Social Security. State Director Sarah Waddle and State President Joe Everett advocated for family caregivers as well as Social Security while meeting with Members of Congress and carrying out crucial asks.
As part of a continuing effort to inform Hoosiers about a state law that improves communication between hospitals and family caregivers, AARP Indiana is offering free wallet-sized cards about the CARE Act, explaining caregivers’ rights when a patient comes home from a hospital stay.
