AARP Missouri Executive Council member Sidney McCarther was selected to join the AARP Volunteer Leadership Institute (VLI) in December 2013.
VLI is a rigorous year-long training opportunity under the auspices of the Office of Volunteerism and Service that mobilizes highly skilled and motivated AARP volunteers who focus on their volunteer development. In past years, many have been promoted or appointed to new leadership positions in the AARP network or external organizations such as the National Urban League and local Chambers of Commerce.
Members of the VLI are exceptional volunteers from 21 states. “They are diverse in every way: age, experience, area of focus, area of expertise, things that they’re passionate about,” said Office of Volunteer Service Advisor Terry Edwards.
Upon learning of the appointment, AARP Missouri State Director Craig Eichelman sent the following email to state staff: “Sidney was up early to share his good news. It’s official! He is now part of the Volunteer Leadership Institute. Join me in congratulating Sidney!”
McCarther will travel to Washington DC to participate in a series of meetings during 2014 and we’ll keep track of his experiences.
Congratulations and best wishes to Sidney McCarther as he joins a magnificent group of volunteer leaders from across the country!
