AARP released a report that shows an estimated 19,221 of Mississippians on Medicare prescription drug plans will see savings thanks to a new out-of-pocket cap that starts January 1, 2025. The savings are made possible by a provision in the 2022 prescription drug law that AARP championed which caps out-of-pocket prescription drug costs every year, beginning at $2,000 next year, for America’s 56 million Medicare drug plan enrollees.
The names of the first 10 Medicare drugs whose prices the federal government will negotiate directly with manufacturers were released Aug. 29. Popular but pricey blood thinners, diabetes medications, cancer treatments make historic list.

It’s not always easy to get to a doctor’s office, especially for people living in rural or inner-city areas with few physicians. AARP Mississippi is working to improve access to care by supporting efforts to expand telehealth, which allows doctors and other providers to use technology to treat patients remotely. Typically, telehealth involves the use of live video to “see” the patient from a distance, as well as secure electronic transfer of records and digital images to evaluate the patient’s history and monitor progress.
DeSoto County, just south of Memphis, Tenn., is one of the fastest-growing counties in Mississippi and is seeing a surge in its 65-plus population.

(Jackson, MS) - AARP Regional Vice President for the South Region, John B. Caine, II, has announced the appointment of Kimberly L. Campbell as the AARP Mississippi State Director, effective May 23, 2016.
AARP Mississippi thanks the Mississippi House of Representatives for passing HB 1178 today. The bill now goes to the Senate. HB 1178 would help expand access to healthcare through telemedicine. It has the potential to improve the lives of patients, as well as their caregivers, across Mississippi.
