(Ridgeland, MS) – Mississippi ranks 48 th overall when it comes to meeting the long-term care needs of older residents and people with disabilities, and AARP warns much more must be done, at an accelerated pace, to meet changing demographic demands. AARP Mississippi is pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2017 AARP Mississippi Andrus Award for Community Service -- AARP’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.
AARP Mississippi is presenting a free Caregiving Webinar on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 7 p.m. You can participate in this live, interactive event from the comfort of your home or office. Participants will receive tips and resources on starting a caregiving conversation, forming a team, making a plan, finding support and caring for themselves as they continue to care for others.
Family caregivers spend a great deal of time tending to their loved ones’ needs. They help with bathing, meal preparation, medications, transportation and other tasks of daily living. Considering the energy required, it is no surprise that caregivers need support, too.
Almost 90 percent of Americans 65 and older want to stay in their home as they age, but Mississippi lags behind 35 states and the District of Columbia in using Medicaid funds to help residents achieve that goal.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax preparation help to anyone, especially if you’re 50 and older, and can’t afford a tax preparation service. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide understands that retirement or other life changes may mean your taxes are a little more complicated now. Last year, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers helped more than 19,440 people file their federal and state tax returns.
