The Missouri Legislature returns to Jefferson City, MO, the State’s Capital, for the 2020 Legislative Session. During the next 5 months our state’s lawmakers will be focusing on the state’s budget and dealing with a host of contentious issues. AARP, will be right there advocating for 50+ and the communities that they live in.

AARP is backing a bill that would help workers save money from their paychecks. Other legislative priorities include property-tax reassessment, utility rates, home- and community-based services, and protecting the circuit breaker tax credit.

AARP Missouri hosted a Access Live event on October 8, 2019 to educate the 50+ population about securities fraud, and also the importance of voting in every election in Missouri. The event featured Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft who explained his role as it relates to regulating the securities industry and managing the voting system for the entire state.

AARP is urging lawmakers to restore full funding for a state financial assistance program that helps Missourians afford the prescription medications they need.

The 2019 Missouri State Legislative Session

On July 9, Missouri became the 40th state to pass the Caregiver Advise, Record, Enable Act. Signed by Gov. Mike Parson (R), the law will support unpaid family caregivers by requiring hospitals to record their names when their loved ones are admitted; notify caregivers when their loved ones are moved or discharged; and instruct caregivers on the medical tasks they will need to perform at home.
