Trailnet, with the support of Great Rivers Greenway, is participating in the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project for the fourth year in a row. Volunteers are needed who can commit to counting bicyclists and pedestrians at designated locations from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 8 or Sept. 9.
Help out our community by sharing your skills as a volunteer with the St. Louis NORC. The St. Louis NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Community), a non-sectarian neighborhood program operating in the Creve Coeur area and whose mission is to help older adults remain living at home, is in need of volunteers from the community. Here’s a snapshot of their needs:
The first of two guided bike rides done in partnership with Trailnet takes place in July. On this first ride, you will learn about St. Louis’ rich musical and cultural history. On July 11 th, the President & CEO of Jazz St. Louis will lead this cycling tour through downtown St. Louis.
On Saturday, July 25 th, AARP in St. Louis in partnership with Lilly’s Music and Social House (2321 Arsenal) and SAGE, will be hosting ‘Laces & Leashes’ – a community walk audit with your dog. AARP members and friends are invited to learn how to conduct a walk audit in their own neighborhood while walking your canine friend. Following a brief orientation, dogs and their owners will hit the sidewalk in teams and start evaluating their respective route. And that is only the beginning of the fun.
Fifty AARP members participated in the St. Louis Senior Olympics as part of Team AARP Memorial Day weekend. All told, Team AARP athletes competed in over 100 different events – everything from Washer Toss to Golf to Pickleball.
St. Louis will be bursting with color June 27-28, 2015 at Soldier’s Memorial celebrating PrideFest. AARP in St. Louis will once again participate in the PrideFest activities. We will have a booth at the festival in an area specifically for people 50+ which will have acoustic entertainment, seating and a wine garden. You don’t want to miss out on all the fun!
Join AARP in St. Louis for the Breakfast Bunch (part of the Ten Toe Express program) where we visit a different St. Louis eatery for breakfast each Saturday through June 20 th. The Eclipse in University City was our first destination which proved to be a yummy choice. Check out our other destinations and how to register.
Like to get your hands dirty? Need a little ‘soil therapy'? AARP would like to share information about a volunteer opportunity for those of us who like to dig in the dirt from Gateway Greening. The Great Perennial Divide is St. Louis' largest gardening volunteer event involving more than 75 gardens across the metro area.
