AARP New Mexico is partnering with the Albuquerque Isotopes to bring an AARP afternoon of fun and information to the ballpark.

Did you know that there are low-income older adults and people with disabilities right in your own community who need your help to remain independent? If you could volunteer a few hours of your time each month, you could enable them to remain independent and in their own homes.

AARP New Mexico had a very successful legislative session as several priority measures it supported were signed into law by Gov. Susana Martinez.

AARP New Mexico has selected Jackie Cooper, of Santa Fe, as its next State President. Cooper will replace outgoing State President Louis Sarabia, of Las Cruces, whose term has expired.

With the 2013 New Mexico Legislature underway, like most interested parties, AARP New Mexico will have a slew of individuals lobbying on behalf of its legislative priorities – with a couple of big differences. One, AARP’s individuals are the legislators’ own constituents, the very people any new laws will impact, and second, they are all volunteers.

Sue Lundgren, of Las Cruces, has been named AARP New Mexico’s 2012 Andrus Award winner. The award is named for AARP’s founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus and is given to a volunteer who most exemplifies her example and motto of “to serve, not to be served.”Lundgren was bestowed the honor because of the countless hours she gives to a variety of organizations in Las Cruces, her dedication toward serving others and her belief that community service is important.
