The AARP Pickleball Clinic Tour is coming to Albuquerque. This free clinic will consist of an on-court guided session with licensed instructors, focusing on warm-up, basic technique, skills building, and game play for players of all levels.
AARP to Conduct Fall Shredding Events in Las Cruces and Santa Fe. Drug Take Back Day with the New Mexico Department of Justice will also be part of the Santa Fe event.
AARP Foundation is recruiting friendly and service-oriented people throughout New Mexico to join its Tax-Aide volunteer team. Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free, volunteer-based tax assistance and preparation program.
Supporters of the Paid Family and Medical Leave Act are already getting ready for the next Legislative Session, bringing attention back to the issue with a series of town halls over the next couple of months. The town hall listening sessions, being conducted by the Southwest Women’s Law Center, in partnership with the PFML Coalition, will hit every quarter of the state from now to early November.

AARP New Mexico, together with the St. Bernard Project and the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM), are bringing together first responders, government officials and other responding organizations, for a one-day symposium, Wednesday, Aug. 23, in Las Vegas, NM, on how to improve disaster readiness and response.
AARP New Mexico is joining the scene – the Santa Fe Summer Scene that is. It will be sponsoring the concert by Cuarenta Y Cinco and Severo Y Grupo Fuego, Thursday, Aug. 31, 6 p.m., at the Santa Fe Plaza. The event is part of Lensic 360’s ongoing Summer Scene featuring a series of concerts, with a few movies mixed in, mostly centered in Santa Fe’s downtown area and the Santa Fe Railyards. All events are free.
AARP New Mexico is teaming up with the El Paso Chihuahuas this summer to share information on how to protect yourself from scams and fraud. You can learn some useful tips and AARP members and their guests can enjoy a baseball game at a special discounted rate.
AARP New Mexico announced June 28th that three organizations, located in Alamogordo, Las Cruces and Farmington, will receive 2023 Community Challenge grants – part of the largest group of grantees to date with $3.6 million awarded among 310 organizations nationwide.
Attorney General Raúl Torrez joined AARP New Mexico volunteers, Tuesday, June 13, in reaching out to New Mexicans across the state in an effort to share information on how to keep themselves safe from fraud and scams. The event, called a “Reverse Boiler Room”, took the common criminal tactic of cold-calling people, and reversed it to offer proactive tips to spot and avoid scams.
The Andrus Award for Community Service honors a volunteer or volunteer couple who have gone above and beyond everyday volunteering and make a powerful impact on their community. It is our most prestigious volunteer award.
In the early 1900s, the Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa, Oklahoma, now called "Black Wall Street," was a vibrant and prosperous community. Despite the challenges and racial injustices they faced, residents of this community built a thriving neighborhood filled with successful Black-owned businesses, attorneys, doctors, and real estate agents. Their achievements were nothing short of remarkable and served as a beacon of hope for Black Americans nationwide.
AARP New Mexico staff and volunteers gathered Thursday with other supporters to discuss the future of the Paid Family and Medical Leave Act. Senate Bill 11 was one of AARP’s priorities for the 2023 Legislative Session. Despite being passed by the Senate, the bill was tabled by the House Commerce and Economic Development Committee earlier this week, ending the bill for this Session. “Providing family caregivers with more resources, especially those that allow them to continue to work while caring for a loved one, is a top priority for AARP,” said Othiamba Umi, AARP New Mexico Advocacy Director.
