No Cars, But Plenty of Zip at CicLAvia

Web

In a city where people spend too much time in cars, it’s great to have a reason to get out from behind the wheel.

This month Angelenos embrace that idea with CicLAvia, a festival in which a designated route is closed to cars for a day so people can take to the streets by bike, foot, skates or even unicycle.

Occurring Sunday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the free event will cover 2.25 miles of the city’s Wilmington neighborhood.

Since it began in 2010, CicLAvia has drawn more than 1.6 million people to different sections of L.A., transforming the roads into park spaces a few times a year.

While you roam the streets, join family activities and sample food from local eateries.

AARP in Los Angeles is a regular sponsor of CicLAvia and will be on hand to share what the organization is doing in the community.

Drop by its booth for giveaways and recreation at the intergenerational PlayZone, where families can play classic board games. For those who prefer to ride their way through Wilmington, AARP will have free pedicabs to ensure that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy the day.

AARP in Los Angeles will also be at CicLAvia events on June 30, Aug. 18, Oct. 6 and Dec. 8.
