Promote Holiday Cheer: Help Feed the Hungry

food bank

AARP Oregon is teaming up with Safeway, U.S. Bank, CareOregon Advantage and KOBI-TV/NBC 5 to brighten the holiday season by collecting food for needy families in southern Oregon.

AARP is encouraging members to drop off food donations at local Safeway grocery stores and U.S. Bank branches from Nov. 28 to Dec. 22. Safeway shoppers also can buy a $10 bag of groceries to be delivered to a family in need. KOBI-TV will broadcast live from a Medford Safeway store in a one-day push for contributions on Dec. 3.

Even in a recovering economy, low wages and high food costs result in 14 percent of Oregon households sometimes lacking confidence that they can put enough food on the table.
