2024 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
During the Oregon legislature's short 5-week session, AARP Oregon advocated on issues important to our more than 500,000 Oregon members and all Oregonians 50+ and their families. Check out our 2024 Legislative Agenda and our 2024 Legislative Report.
Workplace Age Discrimination: Thanks to the help and support of our members, volunteers, and advocates, legislators heard from us and HB 3187 passed the House by a vote of 42-16 and the Senate 20-9. And on May 22, Governor Tina Kotek signed our bill into law. The below is archival information.
55% of Oregon workers 40+ have seen and experienced workplace age discrimination. More than 50% of those who had applied for a job were asked about their age, date of birth or graduation date, which we know is a barrier to getting a foot in the door for an interview. This issue affects all Oregonians, regardless of party affiliation and support for updating the law is shared across the political spectrum.
Passing HB 3187 will fix Oregon’s workplace age discrimination problem.

ODHS Audit
People living in long-term care facilities deserve safe, quality care. AARP Oregon is tracking developments following the tragic death of a memory care resident last year. Read the Letter from AARP Oregon to the Governor regarding the audit she has directed ODHS-APD to conduct related to care of vulnerable older adults living in long-term care.
Joint Committee on Transportation
An important aspect of our work in the state is advocating for livable and age-friendly communities, including expanding transportation and mobility options, and ensuring that people have safe, convenient, and affordable ways to get around their community. The Joint Committee on Transportation aims to improve the state's transportation system by gathering community input and making recommendations. Read our Volunteer State President's letter to the Committee on expanding transportation options for all Oregonians and making Oregon age-friendly and livable for people of all ages and abilities.
