This spring has been a busy time for AARP Pennsylvania staff and volunteers across the Commonwealth. As the weather warmed up, so did activities in York. In addition to carrying on our community service work through volunteers, AARP has continued its partnership with key stakeholders on initiatives to ensure that York is a vibrant and enjoyable community for all. AARP has also been active on caregiver issues and fraud prevention. Here’s just a sample of what AARP has been up to in York:

The AARP Block Party—a live experience that will pop up at major events around the country—will make its third stop at the Odunde Festival in Philadelphia on Sunday, June 12th from 10 AM - 8 PM at the intersection of Grays Ferry Avenue and Pemberton Street.

Although a fight is expected to break out between the General Assembly and the governor about the overall framework of the 2016/17 state budget, there are areas of agreement between legislators and the Administration. One of these areas of critical importance to older Pennsylvanians, is how revenues from the Pennsylvania lottery will be spent.

Harrisburg, PA: Governor Tom Wolf presented his FY 16-17 budget in the annual budget message to the Pennsylvania General Assembly on Tuesday, February 9 th, but the budget itself was almost irrelevant to the event. Here are three takeaways for you and your family to consider in the coming months.

AARP Foundation is looking to build its Pennsylvania team of tax-loving volunteers. Tax-Aide is a free tax assistance and preparation program for taxpayers with low to moderate income available through the AARP Foundation.

Virginia Spiker of Camp Hill has been selected by AARP, the nonprofit membership organization for people 50 and older, to receive Pennsylvania’s 2015 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service, the Association’s most prestigious and visible volunteer award.
