AARP Pennsylvania launched a new statewide voter education campaign focused on helping communities and older adults cut through the noise and avoid confusion when exercising their right to vote. Pennsylvania voters have been on an information rollercoaster ride since 2020, and we are providing Pennsylvanians 50-plus with trusted information about how, when, and where to vote in the 2022 elections.

Department of Aging Secretary Robert Torres was joined by Sen. Maria Collett, AARP Pennsylvania, and community leaders today to echo Governor Tom Wolf's call for the Pennsylvania General Assembly to immediately use a portion of the $1.7 billion in unspent American Rescue Plan Act dollars to help older adults and individuals with disabilities through property tax and rent rebates to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

AARP Pennsylvania State Director Bill Johnston-Walsh joined Senator Bob Casey virtually to highlight the need for Congress to lower prescription drug prices and deliver a petition signed by nearly 218,000 Pennsylvanians calling for Congress to act now and stop unfair drug prices.

On Thursday, March 24th, Governor Tom Wolf was joined by Representative Steve Samuelson to call on Pennsylvania’s Republican-led General Assembly to immediately use $1.7 billion in unspent American Rescue Plan Act dollars to help older Pennsylvanians and individuals with disabilities through property tax rebates to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

AARP PA joined U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) and local partners to celebrate the twelve-year anniversary of the Affordable Care Act and to continue discussions on lowering prescription drug costs.

On behalf of our 1.8 million members across the state, AARP Pennsylvania appreciates that Governor Tom Wolf’s proposed budget for FY 2022/2023 shows awareness of the myriad of challenges that Pennsylvanians and their families face. However, with the pandemic still on the move, the oldest and most vulnerable among us need protection – with nursing home residents and those who care for them at the front of the line.

We know that it takes time to build great communities. But, we also believe that tangible improvements can spark long-term change. AARP launched the Community Challenge in 2017 to fund projects that build momentum to improve livability nationwide. We are excited to announce the program is back in 2022 for its sixth year and is currently accepting applications online through March 22, 5:00 p.m. ET.

In a vital step for workers across the Commonwealth, House Bill 2156 was introduced on February 3rd in order to create Keystone Saves, a program that will provide Pennsylvania workers with an easy way to save out of their regular paycheck and help them grow the savings they need to take control of their future.

AARP Pennsylvania hosted a tele-town hall on Tuesday, January 25th, featuring Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro and Acting Consumer Advocate Patrick Cicero to help its 1.8 million members and all Pennsylvanians know how and where to access utility assistance programs.
