AARP Vermont has awarded Winter Placemaking Grants to eight organizations across the state to support creative, inclusive programming that fosters community connection and combats social isolation among older adults during the coldest months of the year.
Driving, of course, is a big part of life in Montana, including for older drivers looking to maintain their independence. However, with a vast state and great distances between towns, it’s not surprising that Montana ranks #8 in the nation for vehicle miles traveled per-capita, according to data from the Federal Highway Administration and the Census Bureau. Additionally, Montana ranks #1 in the nation for the most dangerous state for drivers, with a higher-than-average number of fatal accidents and deaths per capita, according to Forbes.

New Jersey groups have received 47 grants totaling more than $586,000 since the AARP Community Challenge program began in 2017. These quick-action projects focus on livability, improving infrastructure and creating gathering spaces.
