Seven local entities in Georgia won AARP Community Challenge grants this year, totaling nearly $100,000, for quick-turnaround projects that aim to increase livability.

Six organizations in Illinois received 2023 AARP Community Challenge grants—totaling nearly $57,000. Projects included home modifications, intersection improvements and a community garden.

Seven Ohio entities won 2023 AARP Community Challenge grants—totaling nearly $136,000. Projects included a home repair service for older adults, a grocery store in a food desert and an urban farm.

Philadelphia’s Center in the Park, a social and assistance hub for older adults, has transformed an office space that was no longer needed into a new gathering spot.

In June, AARP awarded more than $155,000 in grants to 11 organizations across California, as a part of its nationwide annual funding campaign to enhance community living. Included are grants to help improve transit options.

AARP South Carolina is continuing its virtual cooking class series with a Thursday, Oct. 5, class on Puerto Rican cuisine.
