Six Week Health Challenge to Start in Cape Girardeau

“Don’t Gamble With Your Health!” a new free program that will focus on personal health awareness – is scheduled for March 25 through May 6, 2014 at the Saint Francis Medical Center Health & Wellness Center, 150 S. Mount Auburn Rd. in Cape Girardeau. From 10 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. during the six week period, individuals will participate in weekly challenges around health topics and exercises. On four Tuesdays during the six week challenge, four group gatherings are planned with a special focus on personal health awareness topics led by experts:

  • March 25 – Know Your Numbers: Count your way to good health by Ashley Lipke, Cross Trails Medical Center
  • April 8 – Laughter is the Best Deal in the Deck: Learn how laughter can improve your health by Mary Gosche, University of Missouri Extension
  • April 22 – Queen of Hearts: Learn what it takes to keep your heart healthy by Debbie Leoni, Southeast Health
  • May 6 Not Your Average Poker Chips: Learn to use healthy alternatives when preparing snacks and appetizers by Janet Anders, Saint Francis Medical Center

Each group gathering will conclude with a bonus 20 minute beginning yoga session taught by certified instructor Missy Phegley, PhD. Snacks and door prizes will be given at each activity and a special door prize will be awarded to those who attend at least three of the four sessions.

“Don’t Gamble With Your Health!” is free to the public and sponsored by AARP, Saint Francis Medical Center, Fitness Plus, Aging Matters, Missouri Regional Arthritis Centers, University of Missouri Extension, and Cross Trails Medical Center.
