AARP in Sioux Falls hosted over 230 AARP members and guests at a fun red carpet event last Friday night to celebrate the Oscars and to discuss the importance of Medicare in South Dakota.

Week 7 of the 2017 South Dakota legislative session was marked by crossover day on Thursday. Crossover day is the last day for a bill or joint resolution to pass its house of origin.

Every year, President’s Day weekend brings a break to the chaos of the legislative session, and this year is no different.

In South Dakota, taking care of those we love comes naturally. This silent army is taking on tasks like bathing and dressing, managing finances and transportation and even performing complicated medical tasks all so their loved ones can remain in their homes and communities - where they want to be.

With Week 4 in the books, we are nearing the half way mark of the 2017 South Dakota legislative session and AARP South Dakota is busy working on issues important to our 50+ population in South Dakota.

As part of National Tax Identity Theft Awareness Week, AARP’s Fraud Watch Network and AARP Foundation Tax-Aide are joining forces with federal agencies to highlight the dangers of tax identity theft and recovery steps for victims.

At AARP, we believe Medicare is a deal with the American people that must not be broken.

Unfortunately, the weather prevented us from flooding the capitol with a sea of AARP red this week during our annual Lobby Day. However, an enthusiastic group of Pierre area volunteers did a wonderful job representing the more than 180 advocates who were snowed in across the state. We were joined for lunch by more than 75 Legislators with whom we discussed health care policies, issues of financial security and other AARP SD priorities.
