Tell the Ohio Senate to protect consumers

12.09.14 telephone line

Losing telephone landlines would undermine the safety of many rural Ohio families and isolate low-income rural elderly. Please act quickly and send a message to your state senator to help protect rural Ohioans from losing their telephone landlines.

Ohio senators are hearing testimony today and tomorrow on HB 490. Under the telecommunications proposal included in HB 490, Ohioans in rural areas will lose their land line service.

It is critical you contact your senator now and tell him/her to remove the proposed telephone provisions from HB 490.

Under the telecommunications proposal included in HB 490, Ohioans in rural areas will lose their land line service but will not get fiber optic service. They will only have wireless telephone service with no price controls or guarantees for low income Ohioans in these areas.

Our voices expressing the importance of the same quality and affordability of telephone service for all Ohioans, no matter where they reside or if they live on a very low income, must continue.

Please send your state senator a message today telling him or her that you oppose moving this complex proposal during the lame duck session. Tell our state senators to remove all telephone provisions from HB 490.
