Tips for Addressing Common Problems in Accessing the Volunteer Portal

Below are answers to some common questions we receive from volunteers and staff about logging onto the Volunteer Portal or helping someone else do so.  If you have a concern we haven’t addressed, feel free to contact the Volunteer Helpline at 866-740-7719 or volunteer@aarp.org .

Logging On Yourself

  • Remember where you’re going!Visit http://volunteers.aarp.org to log on (or http://login.salesforce.com for staff accounts)
  •  Forget your password? You can reset it yourself by going to https://login.aarp.org/online-community/account/pwdrequest.action.  Once you set a new one, we recommend writing it down and placing it on the back of your keypad  - or taping it to the back of the iPad.
  •  Share an email address with your spouse?Remember that each volunteer account on the Portal must be attached to a separate email address – and that only one email address can be registered per volunteer account.
  • Attending a Volunteer Portal training?Be sure that you can log onto the Portal before you leave the training.  It’s the easiest time to get help if you hit a snag!

Helping Someone Else

  • Assisting another volunteer in accessing the Portal? If you are assisting another volunteer with Portal access on your personal computer, be sure to type in the person’s email address and password rather than your own.  If when you get to the log-in page, an email and password has been pre-entered, be sure to delete them and manually enter the email and password of the volunteer you are assisting.  Also make sure to log out of the Portal on your own account first.
  •  Creating a Portal profile for a volunteer?Be careful about adding the volunteer’s correct date of birth.  They will need this to get logged in and it must match their AARP membership record.
  • Asking a new volunteer to log in?  Be sure they have their Volunteer ID number.New volunteers are often not aware of their volunteer ID number.  Sometimes when they receive the invitation to access the Portal, their ID number is there.  However, there are instances when it doesn’t come through.

If there are other tips we should add to this list, please contact the Volunteer Helpline at 866-740-7719 or volunteer@aarp.org .
