Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. in February signed a bill to help boost the U.S. Virgin Islands’ agricultural sector — a measure supported by AARP. The bill devotes $2.2 million for the adoption of various portions of the Virgin Islands Agricultural Plan, which was unveiled in 2022 and is aimed at strengthening sustainable, community-based local food and farming businesses.

Español | On November 16, 2022, AARP State Director Troy de Chabert-Schuster opened the AARP Sponsored Outdoor Fitness Park in The Virgin Islands. The Grand Opening was held at 11:00 am at the Altona Lagoon in Christiansted, St. Croix, VI. Due to COVID-19, a soft opening was announced in 2021. With 15 parks opened in 2019 and more nationwide between 2020 and 2022, AARP sponsored a fitness park in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

AARP in The Virgin Islands and the VI Department of Sports, Parks, and Recreation are pleased to announce an AARP Sponsored Outdoor Fitness Park in Christiansted, St. Croix, at the Altona Lagoon, a long-term investment in the health of residents. This donation from AARP includes funding for fitness classes at the park for people of all ages. The AARP Sponsored Outdoor Fitness Park is open to people of all ages, though young children must be supervised by an adult.
