AARP volunteers in southeastern Virginia recently completed a round of the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors distribution to seniors at the Hampton Senior Center on Kecoughtan Road for the area Community Action Program Project.

Members listened to a presentation led by Center Director Chanda Nixon and AARP Community Ambassador Bobby Horne, who was assisted by fellow AARP volunteers Joyce Watson and Jacquelynne Meyers.

The Hampton Fire Department’s Cory Johnson will oversee the installation of the devices for the selected seniors.

The S.A.F.E. (Safe Air For Each Senior) initiative was a joint venture with the AARP Executive Board spearheaded by AARP Virginia Volunteer State President Carol Downs, the PAA (Peninsula Agency on Aging), and the Hampton TRIAD.
