AARP Richmond North Chapter #5356 is dedicated to serving both its members and the community at large. The chapter organized a successful health fair on October 19, 2023, where vendors, speakers, and demonstrations provided valuable information on health issues. The Community Service Committee serves nursing homes and veterans through various activities like playing games, distributing roses on Valentine's Day, and contributing to the local food bank.

The chapter awarded a Book Scholarship and sponsored a trip to Lancaster, PA, through their tour committee, offering educational and recreational opportunities to members. Monthly meetings feature speakers from various organizations and the AARP Virginia Speakers Bureau, providing information and resources to members. The chapter has seen an increase in active memberships. The chapter communicates effectively with its members through newsletters published in spring and fall, ensuring everyone is informed about upcoming events. The chapter sets goals and achieves them by leveraging the creativity and dedication of its members and leadership.

Overall, AARP Richmond North Chapter #5356 is committed to its mission of service exemplifying the motto, “To Serve and Not to be Served,” and continues to make a positive impact on the lives of the 50-plus in the community. Accepting the award for the chapter was President Mary Clark.

The chapter meets the second Tuesday of every month except July and August at Pine Camp Cultural Arts and Community Center, 4901 Old Brook Rd., Richmond, VA 23227-3422.

The Chapter Service Award is meant to recognize a local AARP chapter whose work aligns with AARP’s mission and has made a positive impact in their community. AARP Chapters are independently-incorporated entities, and there are more than 800 across the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
