Tips for keeping your brain healthy

AARP Virginia will host a telephone town hall at 1 p.m., Dec. 1, to discuss brain health and keeping minds fit.

The forum will feature Jacobo Mintzer, MD, MBA, Executive Director of the Roper St. Francis Research and Innovation Center and Chief Research and Innovation Officer at Roper St. Francis Healthcare in Charleston, SC, and Sarah Lock, AARP Senior Vice President for Policy & Brain Health, and Executive Director of the Global Council on Brain Health. They will be on the call for 60 minutes taking questions from the audience and providing helpful information about how to protect brain health.

Mintzer is the Executive Director of the Roper St. Francis Research and Innovation Center, and Chief Research and Innovation Officer at Roper St. Francis Healthcare in Charleston, SC. He is also a professor in the department of Health Sciences in the College of Health Professions at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and a staff physician at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center.  At MUSC, he developed the Geriatric Psychiatry and Alzheimer’s research program in 1991, which includes inpatient, outpatient, and consultation services as well as a fellowship program. Mintzer has been involved in clinical research on Alzheimer’s disease for the last 20 years and is author of over 200 peer-reviewed research articles.
