AARP Eye Center
As part of an effort to make Lansing a walkable, age-friendly city, AARP volunteers have completed a three-year audit of sidewalks and identified spots in need of repairs.
About 100 volunteers walked more than 600 miles to complete the audit, which will be analyzed in early 2014. The results will be shared with city officials and planners with the goal of redesigning streets to better accommodate pedestrians, families with strollers and people who use walkers or wheelchairs.
For tips on how your community can conduct a pedestrian audit, call Karen Kafantaris of AARP Michigan at 517-267-8916.
