As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. In Wyoming, Governor Gordon has declared a public welfare emergency to ensure that food assistance continues (for now), but this can still put pressure on local organizations and food banks dedicated to feeding hungry Wyomingites.

AARP Wyoming is collecting non-perishable food items now through Thanksgiving. All donations will go directly to local food pantries, the VA, and Veterans Rock.

Non-profit organizations in Clearmont, Thermopolis, and Sheridan scored a total of four Community Challenge Grants totaling $31,000, AARP announced this fall.
Schatz is no stranger to volunteering for AARP, or various other groups in Sheridan County. The long-time Sheridan-area educator spent six years on the AARP Wyoming Executive Council and is a key member of the Sheridan Community Action Team. Last year he was nominated for the Andrus Award honoring the state’s top volunteer age 50 and over.

Wyoming scored low for a lack of public investment in specific supplies of home and community-based services measured by the scorecard. Wyoming ranked 42nd in the nation for adult day services supply.
AARP Vital Voices Research enables AARP state offices to gauge local opinions on a range of topics through regular surveys. Offered every three years, the surveys are a collaborative effort between AARP researchers and state office staff. The timing of the online phone surveys, along with the content, is customized to reflect the needs of each state.

According to AARP, “A walk audit is an activity in which participants observe and evaluate the walkability of a location to identify and document if and how pedestrians can safely travel along a street, navigate an intersection, and get from Point A to B and C and so on.”
After a public comment hearing for the Public Service Commission (PSC) in Casper produced an overflow audience of ratepayers, it has become clear that Wyomingites have strong feelings on Rocky Mountain Power’s proposed rate increase.
These free events will be held at Laramie County Library and feature members of AARP Wyoming’s volunteer speakers bureau.
The 2023 Wyoming Healthy Aging Data Report is an easy-to-use resource created by researchers at the Gerontology Institute of the University of Massachusetts-Boston led by Dr. Elizabeth Dugan, in partnership with the Wyoming Healthy Aging Coalition and coordinated by Professor Emeritus Virginia B. Vincenti, PhD, CFCS, at the University of Wyoming.
Hayworth won the award through a vote on AARP Wyoming’s Facebook page, and the AARP Wyoming email distribution list. In total, Hayworth received over 760 votes, beating her closest competition by over 400 votes.
