As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. In Wyoming, Governor Gordon has declared a public welfare emergency to ensure that food assistance continues (for now), but this can still put pressure on local organizations and food banks dedicated to feeding hungry Wyomingites.

AARP Wyoming is collecting non-perishable food items now through Thanksgiving. All donations will go directly to local food pantries, the VA, and Veterans Rock.

Non-profit organizations in Clearmont, Thermopolis, and Sheridan scored a total of four Community Challenge Grants totaling $31,000, AARP announced this fall.

AARP Wyoming honored Casper’s Barb Summers with its Community Action Team Leader award Thursday night at the organization’s Volunteer Recognition Awards Dinner in Casper.
Wayne Schatz is well known in AARP Wyoming circles as a long-time member of the organization’s Executive Council. Thursday night, he was honored for his work on behalf of educators during his retirement at AARP Wyoming’s Volunteer Recognition Dinner in Casper.
Maxine Yeager is the 2018 AARP Wyoming Community Partner Award winner, having been honored by AARP Wyoming during its Volunteer Recognition Dinner in Casper, Thursday.
AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that empowers people to choose how they live as they age. A big part of that work comes through its advocacy at the national, state, and local level.
It is very possible that no one has trained as many drivers on Wyoming roadways as has Richard Macht. Thursday night, Macht was honored by AARP Wyoming for his work with the Driver Safety Program during the organization’s Volunteer Recognition Awards in Casper.
Rock Springs resident, Sara Narramore was honored by AARP for her work with AARP’s Tax Aide program, Thursday night at the organization’s Volunteer Recognition Dinner in Casper.
