AARP Presents Disrupt Aging Event in Torrington

CHEYENNE - AARP Wyoming State President, Kate Sarosy of Casper, will offer a Disrupt Aging presentation at the Torrington Friendship Center on June 14 starting at 10 a.m. The Friendship Center is located at 216 East 19th Avenue in Torrington.

Goshen County AARP Community Action Group and the Goshen County Friendship Center in Torrington are sponsoring the event, in conjunction with AARP Wyoming, which will provide a free lunch for those attending.

The Disrupt Aging movement has been alive and well since AARP’s CEO, Jo Ann Jenkins wrote the book, “Disrupt Aging,” in 2016. The book

would go on to be a national bestseller and changed the conversation around aging by challenging outdated beliefs by detailing how to embrace opportunity and change the way society looks at getting older.

Closer to home, Sarosy also shares a passion for aging well, and has made the Disrupt Aging initiative a focal issue during her time as the volunteer president of AARP Wyoming. She is a former business owner as well as the former mayor of Casper, and enjoys working with other volunteers across Wyoming to improve life for those age 50 and over. Her presentation will provide insight to the fact aging is not just about adding years to the end of life, it’s about creating a bold new path to living your best life at every age. Sarosy will also highlight stories of people redefining what it means to grow older in Wyoming, and across the country.

“It is my hope that this presentation helps those in attendance to reflect on their own beliefs about aging,” Sarosy said. “This event is meant to be interactive and I really look forward to learning how the residents of Goshen County can inspire me to continue to disrupt aging.”

Sarosy says her presentation will include discussion on common stereotypes of aging, taking control of your health, choosing where you live, making your money last, putting your experience to work and more.

The Disrupt Aging presentation is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Anne Gardetto at 307-532-5966.
