Family Caregiver Resources for Wyoming

No matter where you are in your caregiving journey — starting to plan; taking care of a family member in your home, in a facility, or from a distance; or managing end-of-life caregiving responsibilities — having resources at your fingertips will make the process easier.

AARP developed this family caregiver guide with you, the caregiver, in mind and as a starting point to help you find the services and support you might need throughout your journey.

Caregiver Support

Department of Health — National Family Caregiver Support Program (307-777-7995; 800-442-2766)
Provides information about resources and services for family caregivers, including training, support groups and respite care.

Finances

Commodity Supplemental Food Program (307-777-5878)
Provides no-cost monthly food boxes to income eligible residents age 60 or older.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (307-777-8550)
Eligible households receive food assistance through an Electronic Benefits Transfer card to cover a portion of their food budget, as well as nutritional education.

Legal

Legal Aid of Wyoming Inc. (307-432-0807; 877-432-9955)
Offers civil legal assistance to low- income residents for civil matters including end-of-life planning, financial and employment issues, family law and protection from abuse.

Health

Alzheimer’s Association Wyoming Chapter (307-316-2892; 800-272-3900 24-7 helpline)
Provides information and resources related to Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, including the latest research, care navigation tools, support groups and a 24-hour helpline.

Dementia Friendly Wyoming (307-461-5955)
Provides information and access to resources for people living with dementia and their caregivers.

Department of Health— Aging Division (307-777-7995; 800-442-2766)
Provides information and access to programs and resources for older adults, people with disabilities and their caregivers.

Wyoming Center on Aging Dementia Support Services (307-766-2829)
Offers support, education and resources for people dealing with dementia, their families and caregivers.

Housing and Care Facilities

Department of Health — Consumer Information (307-777-7656; 866-571-0944)
Provides inspection reports for licensed health care facilities, and information and resources to compare and select long-term care facilities.

Long-Term Care Ombudsman (307-777-2885)
Provides consumer protection advocacy services to residents of long-term care facilities such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, specialty care facilities and boarding homes. Anyone can use an ombudsman to report a concern and get help resolving problems, including residents, residents’ family members and friends and long-term care facility employees.

Wyoming Independent Living (307-314-2074; 800-821-3091)
Helps eligible residents locate disability-related resources, apply for programs and services to maximize independence, and resolve issues related to equal access and disability rights.

Wyoming Services for Independent Living
Services and programs include independent living skills training, peer counseling and advocacy.

    Information and Services

    Department of Health — Community Living (307-777-7995; 800-442-2766)
    Provides information to adults 60 and older regarding health education and preventive health services, socialization services, supportive services, advance care planning and transportation services.

    Wyoming Aging and Disability Resource Center (888-425-7138)
    One-stop call center provides information on local services for older adults, people with disabilities and family caregivers in Wyoming.

    Wyoming Center on Aging (307-766-2829)
    Offers older residents and their caregivers information about aging- related resources, educational and training opportunities, programs, information and resources/services to support aging in place, and clinical training and services.

    Wyoming Department of Workforce Services (307-777-8650)
    Provides information about training programs, career guidance, workforce centers, vocational rehabilitation, unemployment insurance and workers’ compensation.

    Wyoming Senior Citizens, Inc. (800-856-4398)
    Meets the needs of Wyoming’s older residents through connections to the National Family Caregiver Support, Senior Companion, Long Term Care Ombudsman and Foster Grandparents programs.
    VFW AUXILIARY, Post 2469, Loan Closet (307-684-7946)
    Loans assistive devices, such as wheelchairs and prosthetic items, for Johnson County residents.

    End of Life

    Central Wyoming Hospice & Transitions (Natrona County: 307-577-4832 Converse and Platte Counties: 307-298-5057)
    Provides end-of-life care and information for individuals, their families and caregivers.
