Hello AARP friends and neighbors across Wyoming! I am pleased and honored to have been selected as your new AARP Wyoming State President. My name is Stella Montano. I retired from the Sheridan Senior Center in September 2019. My position was Director of Family Caregiver Services. It was an honor to work with caregivers. After retiring, my passion for working with the 50+ population and caregivers did not stop! As The AARP Wyoming State President, I will continue to work with caregivers as part of my platform during my tenure. I live in Sheridan, Wyoming where my husband Clarence and I lead the AARP Community Action Team.
I am excited to step into the leadership role that my predecessor, Kate Sarosy held for six years leading volunteers and promoting the values and traditions AARP holds. Our AARP Motto “To serve, not to be served.” The AARP motto was articulated by our founder, Ethel Percy Andrus and we proudly carry it forward.
As your Wyoming volunteer State President, I am looking forwarding to meeting you and hearing your thoughts as we work together continuing to better serve all Wyomingites with a focus on the 50+ population. Stay tuned for exciting programs and happenings in your communities. Here in Sheridan, the AARP Community Action Team is busy organizing movie events, community service projects, a book club, and more. You can always check for our latest events at aarp.org/wyevents The AARP tax aide program volunteers are still taking appointments via the Sheridan Senior Center (Hub on Smith).
If you have a project or idea that fits with AARP’s goals of serving the 50+ population and helping them fulfill their dreams and goals and living their best lives possible, give us a call and we would be happy to explore a collaboration. I recently attended a training at the AARP office in DC and took several pictures of their inspiring posters. This is what one said: “As everyday innovators in aging we empower people to choose how they live as they age.”
