Sheridan’s AARP Community Action Team Readies For Annual Souper Bowl

Sheridan Souper Bowl

Sheridan-area residents will once again be asked to vote for their Super Bowl favorite by donating non-perishable food to local food banks from Jan. 27-31 in the Seventh Annual Souper Bowl.

The Souper Bowl, a project of Sheridan’s AARP Community Action Team and the Sheridan County Retired Educators Association is a one week blitz that encourages area residents to donate food into bins decorated by the Sheridan Retired Educators Association, which represent either the Kansas City Chiefs or San Francisco 49ers based on which team residents believe will win. The food is then donated to the Salvation Army and the People’s Assistance Food Bank in Sheridan.

Food collection sites are located at the YMCA, Heritage Tower, the Hub, Elmcroft/Sugarland Ridge, and the John C. Schiffer Collaborative School.

During the 2019 Souper Bowl, Sheridan residents donated nearly 750 pounds of food to two Sheridan County food banks, with nearly three times more food being donated in bins decorated by the Sheridan Retired Educators Association in Los Angeles Rams’ colors, than bins decorated with New England Patriot colors.

That beat the 700 pounds of food donated during the 2018 Souper Bowl and 250 pounds of food more than the 2017 Souper Bowl.
