Bill Sundermeyer, Associate State Director for AARP Ohio, today released this statement urging lawmakers to take action now to extend affordable health coverage:
“With less than a week until lawmakers leave Columbus, it is important our legislators finish Ohio’s business and extend affordable health care coverage to veterans and low-wage workers whose jobs don’t include health insurance.
“Many hard working Ohioans, including 26,000 veterans, are struggling and can’t afford to buy health insurance. Accepting federal funds to extend affordable health coverage will help these Ohioans get the care they need. Extending health coverage also will create jobs while helping hospitals in rural areas and inner cities keep their doors open.
“According to a recent study, 63% of Ohioans support extending health care coverage. The majority of Ohioans understand that extending health care will strengthen families, communities and the economy in Ohio. With legislators ready to break for summer, now is the time for our state leaders to stand up and take a vote to extend affordable health coverage.”
