AARP Eye Center
Working with a consortium of six Hispanic agencies led by Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development (LA SED) in Detroit, AARP is reaching out to the state’s Latino community.
Roughly 450,000 Michigan residents are of Hispanic origin, nearly 5 percent.
Spanish-speaking AARP volunteers provided materials about retirement planning, consumer protection, health care, ways to save and strengthening Medicare at the annual La Cena de Los Pobres (Dinner for the Poor) last fall, and at the Senior Summit held in southwest Detroit earlier this year.
A Spanish-language event will be held later this year to discuss Social Security and Medicare.
