Tropical Storm Ida has moved into the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to strengthen to a hurricane quickly - possibly Category 3 by the time it makes expected landfall on Sunday, August 29. AARP Alabama released the following statement today after being alerted by a member of the public that a new scam is circulating in Alabama - and the scammers are claiming to be from AARP.

AARP has helped more than 19 million people 50 and older become safer, better drivers over the years.

AARP Alabama is recruiting a self-motivated social media intern to join its team. It is a paid internship with an anticipated start date of July 2021 and an end date of December 2021. It is currently a teleworking position.

According to the FBI, con artists target older Americans to steal their banking information and identities. AARP Alabama is helping residents avoid becoming victims in many ways, including by hosting online tutorials, known as Fraud Watch Fridays, to provide details of common scams and how to steer clear of them. The sessions are being held at noon, on June 4 and 18, and on July 2, 16 and 30.
