Jack Vincent, a celebrated volunteer in the York community, is the 2013 recipient of AARP Nebraska’s highest volunteer award. He is the twelfth individual to be honored with the annual Andrus Award for Community Service since it was established in 2002.

A new study from the AARP Public Policy Institute calculates that each dollar paid to Social Security beneficiaries in Nebraska generates nearly two dollars in spending by individuals and businesses, adding about $7.2 billion in total economic output to the Nebraska economy – and about $1.4 trillion to the national economy – in 2012. The report also finds the $4.3 billion paid in Social Security benefits in 2012 helped Nebraskans keep or find 51,000 jobs.

AARP Nebraska today released the first in a “commonsense solutions” series of new videos on the 48th anniversary of President Lyndon Johnson signing Medicare into law on July 30, 1965. Nebraska has 240,273 residents who rely on Medicare for their health care coverage, on average spending 12 percent of their income out-of-pocket for their health care costs.
