AARP Alabama is partnering with WBRC Fox 6 in Birmingham to bring Shred-A-Thons to several communities around the Birmingham and north central Alabama area. Area residents can bring up to 3 bags or file boxes of personal documents for shredding. Identity theft experts recommend shredding any old documents that contain account numbers, Social Security numbers, or other personal financial information.
AARP’s chapters in Alabama will be in full swing this fall, providing opportunities for community service and social activities. Chapters are the strategic link between members and communities around our state and AARP’s programs and activities in Alabama. And members may also have the opportunity to meet their local elected officials to share opinions on issues that matter to their community.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is gearing up for the 2015 season in Alabama and is seeking District Coordinators, tax preparers, communication coordinators, trainers and greeters. Join Alabama’s team of 300 volunteers who provide a vital, free service for low-income individuals.
On June 24, 2014, AARP Alabama will co-sponsor a forum for the two Republican candidates who will participate in a run-off election for the Republican nomination for Alabama Congressional District Six. The candidate forum will be held at 6:30 PM at Jefferson State Community College's Shelby-Hoover Campus, located at 4600 Valleydale Road in Hoover.
