Each year, AARP Massachusetts selects state legislative priorities that are consistent with the policies adopted by AARP’s national Board of Directors. These priorities are based on the needs of the commonwealth’s residents and developed through feedback from member surveys, general member communications, and AARP-sponsored hearings and events.
AARP Massachusetts supports community service programs that have a positive impact on individuals and in communities around the state. We also advocate for our more than 800,000 members and their families on issues including health care and financial security at both the state and federal levels, and engage in voter education activities.
More than two thousand seniors and workers – including 600+ AARP members – recently rallied at the Wang Theater in Boston to deliver a message: “We’re not budget numbers on a spreadsheet, and we’re not pushovers. No cuts!”

Imagine this: Your 90-year-old mother lives in a nursing home. You arrange for her to spend a holiday weekend with the family. But when you return to the nursing home, her bed is gone. That scenario could have been reality with a proposed change to the Medicaid system for Fiscal Year 2012, in which nursing home leaves of absence, commonly called “bed hold,” were targeted for elimination.
