AARP is seeking volunteers to pitch in on everything from helping children learn to read and advocating at the state capitol on issues such as nursing home reform to leading workshops on topics like driver safety and decluttering.
Salem and Boston have set the bar high for the other 72 Massachusetts communities that are members of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities and for others seeking to join.
AARP is advocating for relief for the state’s 840,000 family caregivers, to expand resources for home and community care and to improve conditions in nursing homes.
AARP Community Challenge grants are funding multiple projects in Massachusetts, including a new public green space, raised beds with plants for neighbors and an inter-generational dialogue held via Zoom.
