As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. In Wyoming, Governor Gordon has declared a public welfare emergency to ensure that food assistance continues (for now), but this can still put pressure on local organizations and food banks dedicated to feeding hungry Wyomingites.

Minnesota is launching a new way to help workers save for retirement. Secure Choice is a state-facilitated retirement savings program designed for private-sector workers who don’t have access to an employer-sponsored plan like a 401(k). A recent study found 60% of retirement savings-eligible employees were actually non-participants.

We’re writing with an important message to let you know that we have canceled our external events until further notice. While convening events is a core part of our mission, we have changed our approach in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. This includes the AARP Foundation Tax Aide program and in-person Drive Safety courses.
There are about $675 billion reasons that you should care about the 2020 Census. The census influences how your tax dollars are spent over the next ten years. For every person who isn’t counted it costs your community tens of thousands of dollars.
WASHINGTON—AARP released the following statement today on the bipartisan coronavirus package and House passage of HR 6201, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. Said AARP Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy & Engagement Officer Nancy LeaMond:
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-based tax preparation and assistance service, announced today that it will suspend tax preparation services at all sites effective Monday, March 16, until further notice. The action is due to concerns about the spread of coronavirus. The program’s website, www.aarpfoundation.org/taxaide, is the best resource for information and changes in service availability.

Our top priority is the health and well-being of members and the community at large as well as volunteers and staff. We are monitoring developments regarding COVID-19 closely and have taken all precautions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local public health agencies.
Action is due to concerns about the spread of coronavirus. Decision will be made later about reopening sites during this tax season.
