On November 25, 2025, Acting Governor Tregenza A. Roach, Esq., signed the unanimously approved Caregiver Leave Act (Bill 36-0086) into law. This legislation represents a significant advancement, ensuring that all full-time employees of the Government of the Virgin Islands, including those working with independent boards, commissions, and agencies, receive four hours of administrative leave each month. This leave is intended to help them manage essential caregiving responsibilities for a seriously ill spouse, child, parent, or any legal dependent.

For some family caregivers, the holidays can be a joyful time filled with lighter spirits. It feels good to care for loved ones and enjoy being together while celebrating family traditions. However, for many, the holidays also bring added stress. Caregivers are already busy, and the demands of the holiday season increase that workload. Something has to give!
It’s perfectly okay to give yourself a break this year. Here are some tips to help you navigate the holiday season with more joy and less stress.

On November 10, 2025, Governor Albert Bryan, Jr. signed Act 9051, which amends title 34 of the Virgin Islands Code, chapter 15, expanding the Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Protection Act. Act 9051 was approved by the Virgin Islands Legislature on October 30, 2025. AARP Virgin Islands State Director Troy de Chabert-Schuster testified before the 36th Virgin Islands Legislature in support of amendments to the territory’s Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Prevention Act (Bill 36-0099).

As Social Security approaches its 90th anniversary in August, AARP Minnesota is planning events around the state where the public can share stories about how important the program is — or will be — to their retirement security.
The new Longevity Ready Maryland multisector strategy is a 10-year plan that aims to identify and address the needs of the state's aging population. The plan emphasizes cooperation and resource sharing across government agencies, businesses and nonprofits.
The age-friendly designation comes after the administration of Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) last year launched the Aging Our Way, PA 10-year plan, which focuses on ways to help older Pennsylvanians age in their own homes and communities.
AARP New Jersey’s annual fraud summit is set for Tuesday, Sept. 16, in Edison. The forum will focus on how scammers tap into people's emotions and the use of artificial intelligence technology in fraud, among other topics.
Statewide semiquincentennial celebrations will include a traveling Liberty Bell exhibit, interactive programs and community events.
AARP is planning events to celebrate the milestone and raise awareness of the importance of Social Security — a program that provides monthly payments to 1.5 million Arizonans.
AARP New York is planning 90 events across the state in the 90 days leading up to Social Security's 90th anniversary on Aug. 14. It comes amid growing concerns about the program's long-term funding challenges.
More than 3.7 million Texans 65 and older depend on Social Security benefits for at least a portion of their income.

Detroit voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Aug. 5, for a primary election that includes races for mayor, city council, city clerk and board of police commissioners. Incumbent Mayor Mike Duggan chose not to run again to pursue a bid for Michigan governor in 2026.
