AARP Applauds Passage of Legislation Revising Absentee Voting Eligibility Statutes

Vote

AARP Connecticut issued the following comment in response to the passage of House Bill 5262 in the Senate:

“AARP Connecticut applauds the passage of House Bill 5262, An Act Revising Certain Absentee Voting Eligibility Statutes, by the state senate today,” said Nora Duncan, AARP Connecticut State Director. “Aligning state statutes more closely to the state constitutional provisions on absentee ballots will allow more people to have access to voting by absentee ballot because of sickness. The right to vote is among the most basic of all constitutional rights and we support policies that encourage and promote maximum participation in the electoral process. Over the last several elections, voters have demonstrated they want to be able to avail themselves of the expanded use of absentee voting. This bill awaiting Governor Lamont’s signature will do just that.”
