AARP Connecticut State Director Nora Duncan provided the following statement in regards to the passage of House Bill 5591, an act creating the Connecticut Retirement Security Program:
“We strongly support the passage of House Bill 5591 in the House of Representatives and commend leadership for shepherding it through the process. This Connecticut Retirement Security Program will provide the 600,000 workers in the state without access to a workplace retirement option an opportunity to save for their future at no cost to taxpayers and with no employer contribution mandate. Research proves people with payroll deduction retirement choices are 15 times more likely to save for their future. We look forward to passage of the bill in the Senate and positive progress towards closing the huge gap between what our state residents have saved for retirement and what they need, leading to less reliance on social safety net services and costly Medicaid for our seniors.”
