Protect Yourself from Fraud

Have you, or someone you know, had their identity stolen? Someone’s identity is stolen every two seconds. That’s 30 every minute, 300 every 10 minutes, 900 every half hour… so it happens often, and can happen to anyone.

A good way to protect yourself is by shredding confidential documents you no longer need. The AARP Fraud Watch Network can help.

AARP Connecticut invites you to participate in a free shredding event on Sunday, April 24, from 1-5 p.m. (or until capacity is reached) at the parking lot on the corner of Capitol Avenue and Oak Street in Hartford, CT. Bring your confidential documents to the Shred Fest and we'll shred them for free. It only takes a few minutes and can save you lots of headaches later on.

The event is offered in collaboration between AARP Connecticut, the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, the City of Hartford, and the Easter Seals Capital Region & Eastern Connecticut. Questions? Call 1-877-926-8300.

Limit is up to 2 grocery bags/banker’s boxes to be safely and securely shredded* at no cost. AARP membership is not required.

*Document destruction services provided by EnvironShred. Materials will be contained in locked, secured containers and micro shredded at a secure offsite facility.
